Main Library
Main Library is our second busiest library in terms of people who visit and the number of books and other materials that are checked out. It is the right size for the people it serves, but has inadequate lighting, heating, cooling, and electrical systems. It also lacks places for people to work together and for programs to be offered.
Main Library Renovation Project
The proposed improvements at Main are to renovate the building's lighting, heating, cooling, and electrical systems, add four small rooms under the eaves for group study, and build a 100-person program room.
Because of the passage of Measure N in 2008, the City of Palo Alto will be able to renovate and expand Main Library. Construction is expected to begin in 2012. The Palo Alto Library Foundation will include the new furniture it needs in our campaign.
