PALF Presents $1.9 million Check for Mitchell Park Library & Community Center

The Palo Alto Library Foundation is pleased to announce that the “Launch our Libraries” campaign is 90 percent complete, with $3.6 million raised to date. The campaign is providing the funds for the city to purchase modern, accessible furniture, dozens of new computers and other technology, and thousands of new books and electronic materials for the three libraries covered under the Measure N bond of 2008.

Today, PALF is presenting the City Council with a check for $1.9 million to fully fund all the furniture, technology, and materials needed for the Mitchell Park Library and Community Center to reopen in 2012.

Library status

Children’s Renovated and expanded in 2007

College Terrace Renovated in 2010

Downtown Renovated in 2011

Mitchell Park Under construction will reopen fall 2012

Main Will close in 2012, when Mitchell Park opens, for renovation and expansion

The campaign has received more than 800 donations so far, ranging in size from $25 to $1.5 million. The Foundation is deeply grateful to our many donors for their generosity.

Campaign co-chairs Alison Cormack and Susie Thom are particularly pleased about the many Palo Alto families joining at the Leadership level. The Leadership level begins at $5,000 and includes recognition on the donor wall at each of the three library sites.

The “Launch our Libraries” campaign continues through December 2012 and gifts of all sizes are warmly welcomed.

The Palo Alto Library Foundation gratefully acknowledges over 750 donors for their generosity in the Launch Our Libraries fundraising campaign. So far, we have raised $3.5 million of our $4 million goal. These funds will be used for comfortable furniture, dozens of computers, state-of-the-art display and meeting technologies and thousands of new books and electronic resources not covered by the Measure N Library Bond. Downtown Shelving Goes In

This week shelving went in and furniture began to arrive for the Downtown Library. You can see the book shelving on the left and the computer stations area to the right. The coffee vending machine will be relocated and installed for library patrons enjoyment.

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund Awards PALF $17,500 Grant

The Palo Alto Library Foundation is thrilled to be one of 44 recipients of the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund awarded to nonprofits April 25. At the honorees reception Alison Cormack accepted a check for $17,500 to the foundation as the second part of a three-year grant to fund furniture, computers, and books for the new and renovated libraries.

Mitchell Park Library is “Topped Out”

The Palo Alto Library Foundation is pleased to announce that the
Mitchell Park Library and Community Center was "topped out" on Monday,
April 11th.

The private event honored Visionary donors Becky and Jim Morgan and
included guests from the highest level of leadership donors, city officials and
staff, architects, construction representatives, and those who worked on the
various committees and commissions involved in the project. Guests used
commemorative pens to sign the last beam for the building and watched as it
was lifted into place and connected.

Later in the day, the Palo Alto Library Foundation was honored at the
City Council meeting as a community partner after a proclamation from Mayor
Sid Espinosa was read for National Library week. President Bern Beecham
announced that the Foundation has raised $3.3 million of the $4 million goal
and encouraged everyone in the community to consider making a contribution
to provide new furniture, dozens of computers, and thousands of books for our
libraries.

The Foundation will be conducting a city-wide mailing this month to
request donations. Gifts of all sizes are welcomed.
